The families of Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes have initiated a law suit at the São Paulo Court House against former model and businesswoman Helô Pinheiro. The inspiring muse for the duo Tom/Vinicius in the song Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema) from 1962, Helô is being accused of unlawful profiting from one of the greatest hits in the history of music, by the composers’ heirs. According to the text of the law suit, Helô "does not have the legitimacy to make use of Tom Jobim’s and Vinicius de Moraes’ work and images, as she has been doing". This is a non-reparatory suit, attempting to obstruct the former model from presenting herself as "being the real" Garota de Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema) or associating herself in any way with the work of Tom and Vinicius.
