For the fourth consecutive time, Brazilian musicians were awarded Grammys for Best World Music albums. The results were announced last night, in Los Angeles. João Gilberto's album João Voz e Violão 30'' excerpts was the winner, succeeding Caetano Veloso (Livro, in 2000), Gilberto Gil (Quanta Live, in 1999) and Milton Nascimento (Nasciemento, in 1998).

Another Brazilian musician, Ivan Lins, had received two indirect nominations for the tribute-album A Love Affair - The Music of Ivan Lins 30'' excerpts, and got one award: Sting took home the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for She Walks This Earth, which is the English version of Soberana Rosa. The late saxophonist Grover Washington Jr had been nominated Best Pop Instrumental Performance for the song Camaleão, featured on the same album, but the Grammy went to Brian Setzer Orchestra (Caravan).

Guitarist Sharon Isbin's album Dreams of a World was awarded Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (without orchestra). The disc features the music of Brazilian composers, such as Egberto Gismonti (Água e Vinho) and Thiago de Mello (Varre-Vento).
