While reviewing the compilation Brasil 2mil: The Soul of Bass-O-Nova (Six Degrees), the Down Beat music critic Aaron Cohen highlighted the performance of the São Paulo-based singer, along with more well-known Brazilian acts like Bebel Gilberto and Virgínia Rodrigues.

"In fact, I didn't see it coming. I try to keep a low profile, so as not to get nervous", says Andréa, trying to control her anxiety in a moment when her solo career, officially lauched last year with the album Zumbi 30'' excerpts , seems to be blossoming outside of Brazil. In July, she will take her first tour around Europe, including festivals and venues in at least ten countries and the British edition of the hyped Womad Festival.

Right now, Andréa, who has participated in Brazilian versions of plays like Hair and Rent, is busily rehearsing the play Cambaio, written by Chico Buarque and Edu Lobo. She even had to pass other works as a singer due to the rehearsals, but Andréa says she does not worry: "I'm learning a lot. We don't have lyrics like those of Chico or melodies like those of Edu, anymore", praises the vocalist, who has been attracting attention precisely because of her electronic versions of MPB classics, such as Agora Ninguém Chora Mais (Jorge Ben), You Don’t Know Me (Caetano Veloso) and Mulata Assanhada (Ataulfo Alves), among others.

Reinforcing electronic music
On the first European tour, the former vocalist of the big band Heartbreakers intends to travel with her band: Webster Santos (guitar and mandolin), Quincas Moreira (bass), Ricardo Garcia (percussion) and Curumim (drums), as well as producer and musician Paulo Beto, known in the music business as Anvil FX. "With him, the electronica grows in my work", says the singer, revealing that the team should remain the same on her next album, which starts being produced right after the tour.

Andréa is negotiating with the label YBrasil?, but hasn't yet decided whether she'll record again on the label from São Paulo. "I already have new songs, which I'm writing with the guys in the band and Anvil, but I'm not playing them live, yet. Antonico, for instance, should be included", she says, mentioning the irresistible arrangement written for Ismael Silva's samba that Andréa has been using in her shows. "I want the next CD to sound heavier", the singer explains, stating that she shall keep on reviewing MPB standards. "I don't intend to become a songwriter. Sometimes I'll do it and it works out, but I still wanna have a lot of fun".
