A peculiar musical meeting will start out the series Instrumental Sesc Brasil, in São Paulo, next Monday, Jan 8th. Five big band leaders - Nailor Proveta Azevedo and Roberto Sion (woodwind/brass), Laércio de Freitas (piano), Zerró Santos (double bass) and Magno Bissoli (drums) – are going to perform together for the first time as a quintet, calling themselves Big 5 Band. "There is a certain amount of risk in meetings of this kind, but the risk is part of the fun", says clarinet player Proveta, leader of Banda Mantiqueira, disclosing that the five musicians ill get together only a few hours prior to the gig. But that is not a problem for such experts, who are very much used to improvising. With free admittance, the series of shows Instrumental Sesc Brasil will happen on Mondays at the Sesc Paulista, at 6:30 p.m. The line up features other highlights: André Gereissati (Jan. 15), David Ganc (Jan. 22) and the duo Theo de Barros and Toninho Carrasqueira (Jan 29).
