Bossa Nova bassist Tião Neto dies

Brazilian music has not just lost (Titãs guitarist) Marcelo Frommer on June 13th. Bassist Tião Neto, one of bossa nova’s most prominent instrumentalists, died of bladder cancer, after 15 days in hospital. Tião, 69, was an original member of the group Bossa 3, one of the most important instrumental trios in the first phase of bossa nova. As a back up musician, he accompanied Sérgio Mendes, João Gilberto and Tom Jobim on recording sessions and concerts. Tião was also a composer.
