Rock In Rio? Say, what? While the mega rock event rolls in Rio, samba lovers also have reasons to celebrate - a lot. This week, downtown theater João Caetano restarts the Six-Thirty project with daily concerts at 6:30 p.m. Arlindo Cruz e Sombrinha, Leci Brandão and Beth Carvalho are some of the stars that will lend their prestige to the mini-fest.

Délcio Carvalho will be releasing his latest CD, A Lua e o Conhaque ouvir 30s every Tuesday in January at the bar Far Up, in Botafogo. Each week, he will have guests as legendary as Dona Ivone Lara, Noca da Portela and Walter Alfaiate.

On Friday 12, the very day when Rock In Rio will begin, Nei Lopes is going to lead a samba meeting with the group Chapéu de Palha and mandolin expert Nilze Carvalho. They will perform the songs in Lopes' latest album, De Letra & Música ouvir 30s

Loads of options for the weekend
On the 12th and the 13th, the once in a lifetime opportunity to watch Walter Alfaiate performing live in a solo concert at the Hipódromo Up, in Gávea. On the same weekend, Salgueiro's Old School release their new CD at Mika's Bar, in Ipanema. Still on Friday, Luiz Carlos da Vila, Wilson das Neves and Délcio Carvalho play at the Clube do Samba, which takes place downtown, at Fundição Progresso. On the same busy Friday, Mangueira composers will perform their greatest hit sambas at the Ballroom, in Humaitá. It is worth mentioning that this is not the "official" Old School Mangueira group, but an alternative one. Besides all that, the month of Janurary is totally dedicated to Zé Keti, with tribute concerts from Wednesday through Sunday, always at 6 p.m. This week, the guests are Noca da Portela and Marília Medalha. Next week, Elton Medeiros and Teresa Cristina and Império Serrano's Old School.
