The great samba master Dona Ivone Lara is in studio after spending 16 years away from recording sessions. Scheduled for mid-2001, the new CD by the first lady of samba will come out on Luzáfrica, produced by Cape Verde native José da Silva, the same manager responsible for introducing Cesária Évora into the international world music circuit. He expects to achieve the same result with Dona Ivone. The idea is to release the album in Brazil and quickly launch it worldwide, starting in Europe. The musical direction and arrangements will be made by guitarist João de Aquino. The repertoire shall feature a number of new sambas, among which, Agora (Ivone Lara/Délcio Carvalho), Um Grande Sonho (Ivone Lara/Bruno de Castro), Poeta Sonhador (Paulinho Mocidade) and Nas Asas da Canção (Nelson Sargento). Dona Ivone is also going to review some of her own classics, such as Nasci Pra Sonhar e Cantar and Tendência, recorded in 1981 and 1982, respectively.
