Brazil and drum’n’bass no longer sound like one of those ludicrous combinations, like Singapore and polka or Kazakhstan and samba. Which was proved systematically a couple of weeks ago, when DJ Patife, DJ Marky and DJs/producers Drumagick played for about 5 thousand people on a main strip downtown São Paulo, at a big d’n’b party that started at 6 p.m. "People were coming out of the offices, taking off their ties and dancing along with their secretaries", tells Patife, who is currently giving back to the British the influence they had bestowed on him before: his remix for Max de Castro’s Pra Você Lembrar was turned into a major hit at drum’n’bass parties in London.

The track (unavailable on discs) plus his remix of Fernanda Porto’s Samba Sim and a cut that DJ Marky is still working on are going to be featured in the compilation Brazil EP, soon to be released in England on V Recordings. Detail: in November and December, Marky will be touring England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, France and New Zealand as a member of the London-based Movement party.

The story of success behind Pra Você Lembrar began last June, when Patife met with DJ Fabio, from England, who was playing an electronica fest in São Paulo. Patife let go of his shyness and showed the track to Fabio on the car stereo, while riding along the city – Fabio had his curiosity aroused by the enticing Fender Rhodes punch. He returned to London with a CD-R of the remix, proceeded to make a vinyl copy of it and started playing the track on his sets and on his BBC radio show. Other top DJs like Paul Oakenfold and Giles Peterson got pretty interested. Today, the track is included in the play list of the main dance music magazines in Britain. Next January, Fabio shall be back in Brazil to play with Patife and DJ Calbuque at the mega-fest Rock In Rio.

Meanwhile, the DJ from São Paulo works on his next album (he debuted last year with DJ Patife Presents Sounds of Drum’n’Bass). This time around, he intends to deliver his own productions, to be composed and recorded with the help of softwares like Logic and Pro Tools. Patife reveals that this is going to be a double CD – disc 2 to is supposed to be interactive, with shots from parties in London and statements by English DJs. The CD-Rom closes with a live recording made in São Paulo ("It’s bound to make hearts stop", he promises), with (English) MC Exterminator, who will be improvising raps upon Patife’s music. The DJ will finish the album in February; in March, he plays in the U.S., Scotland, England and Holland. In april, Patife returns to Brazil to release the discs.
