ROCK CITY, 8:30 p.m. — "D’you know James Brown?" Escorted by the group Funk’n’Lata, Ivo Meirelles took the stage at the Brazil Tent willing to make everybody dance to the rhythm of the king of funk. It worked! Alternating covers of the American legend and Furacão 2000 (read article) hits, Ivo managed to turn the tent, peaceful until that moment, into a legitimate funk ball. By the end, he did Gilberto Gil’s Aquele Abraço and brought the drum section of the samba school Mangueira to spice up his beats. Ivo deserved a little more than a 30-minute set.
