ROCK CITY, 0h50 — After James Taylor`s sleepy set, the audience was incited to go see Jair Rodrigues at the Brazil Tent. Much to the surprise of the attendants, the 60 year-old singer amazed the crowd with a meteoric, although triumphant presentation. He began with an updated version of the proto-rap Deixa Isso Pra Lá, followed by his classic Disparada, and classic sambas like Não Deixe o Samba Morrer, Leva Meu Samba and É Luxo Só, wraping the set with the remarkable Tristeza. The audience wouldn’t let him go away. Production assistants asked him to introduce Daniela Mercury, but the crowd remained, and Jair sang Festa para um Rei Negro (Pega no Ganzê).

In spite of the short gig, Jair Rodrigues was intensely acclaimed as he left the stage, signing autographs for over 20 minutes. In the backstage, Jair spoke to AllBrazilianMusic about the unexpected feeling: “You have no idea how proud and pleased I am. It’s a 39-year career, always a fight, and to feel that the younger generations revere me is priceless. I’m touched. I belong to the 50s generation, and I went through the 70s and 60s and 90s, and starting out the new millenium in this fashion testifies to the choices I have made.”
