A surprising moment happened by the end of Sean Lennon’s gig at the Free Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro: he invited former Mutantes member Arnaldo Baptista to share the microphone on an English version of Panis et Circensis (from the Mutantes’ debut album). The bassist/vocalist/pianist lives a secluded life, these days, but managed to display a lot of energy and humor, making funny faces while singing. That was the highlight of Sean’s tepid show. According to Arnaldo, Lennon (who designed the cover for Tecnicolor, the lost Mutantes recordings from 1970, released this year) wants him in his next album.
